The Department of Language Policy commissioned D’EP Institut to conduct a study on how the Catalan language is perceived and valued.

The research was based on 8 focus groups with participants from different age groups: 3 with foreign nationals, 1 with people from the rest of Spain, 4 with Catalonia born participants, both Spanish speaking and Catalan speaking.

A total of 59 people took part, using a mix of face to face and online sessions.

The key aspects assessed were: attitudes toward learning or knowing Catalan, perceptions and associations surrounding the Catalan language, emotional bond with the language and perceived usefulness and practical value of Catalan.
