The Menció Enric Renau i Permanyer was born with the desire to be a recognition of the figure and the work of Enric, founding partner of D’EP Institut.

The Menció Enric Renau i Permanyer is born with the desire to recognise the figure and work of Enric in this sphere, valuing the work of people, projects and institutions that, through their initiatives, build towards transformation and intersecting points in the world of education, training and work.

This year, in the context of the sixth edition of the Educaweb Awards, the 1st Menció Enric Renay i Permanyer was given for applied social research in education, training and work, put forth by the College of Political Scientists and Sociologists of Catalonia, the DEP Institute and Educaweb.

The Menció Enric Renau dealt with the study, “Influential factors in the selection of scientific, technological and mathematical studies”, put forth by Everis and carried out with the technical support of e-Motiva, with collaboration from the Education Department.

The first Menció sought to place emphasis on applied research geared towards the collective of young people that, in a specific manner, has as its objective the improvement and increase of opportunities for success in the labour markets.

After preselecting 15 research works, the evaluating committee decided to award the project by Everis for its potential for transferability and impact, methodological ambition, and the vision of the future that it contributed. In the words of Xavier Riudor, technical director at the Council of Work, Economics and Social Matters of Catalonia (CTESC) and Vice-secretary of the Assembly at the College of Political Scientists and Sociologists of Catalonia: the primary objective of the study is to contribute to increasing vocations in the scientific, technological and mathematical sphere, contributing elements for better understanding the decision-making process in the selection of studies at the conclusion of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) and Bachillerato (High School / A Levels) as well as identifying the factors that take place in the selection of these studies.

The 2nd Menció Enric Renau i Permanyer, given for applied social research in education, training and work, brought about by the College of Political Scientists and Sociologists of Catalonia, the DEP Institute and Educaweb, has been awarded to the Catalan Institute of Public Policy Evaluation, Ivalua.

Ivalua is a Consortium of institutions that began its activities in 2008 and promotes the evaluation of public policies in Catalonia, facilitating the exchange of information and access to resources. Its mission is to promote the evaluation of policies and programmes for improving the effectiveness, efficiency and transparency to the citizenry.

This year the second edition of the Menció Enric Renau i Permanyer has sought to place emphasis on the initiatives focused on measuring the impact of policies and programmes. Initiatives for evaluation that hold as their objective the generation of knowledge in order to support the organisations in the decision making process and improving the results of their actions.

In this sense, the Jury considers it vital to incorporate the evaluation of policies and programmes, given that this type of studies allow for the optimisation of resources and produce persuasive arguments and strategies for facilitating the decision making process. In definitive terms, the evaluation of the impact is a tool that clearly increases the social value of research, beginning with the tangible and operational results.

To give this distinction, 11 works of research have been preselected, and the candidates have been evaluated by taking into consideration the followings:

  • Their methodological set-up, and the use of analysis tools that contribute towards addressing their objectives.
  • Orientation towards improvements based on the results of the research.
  • The degree of social innovation that is incorporated, be it by collective in which it is focused or by the instruments that are used.
  • The potential to be transferred to other sectors or collectives.
