Diagnosis on the needs of people with physical and organic disabilities in the municipalities of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area

The Area of Social and Economic Development of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area and the Observatory of Physical Disability (ODF), with the support of D’EP Institut, have carried out, between the months of September 2019 and July 2020, a diagnosis on the needs of people with physical and organic disabilities residing in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area.

The aims of the study have been:
•Detect the unmet needs of people with physical and organic disabilities in the municipalities of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area.
•Explore areas for improvement by public administrations.

To achieve these aims, 10 work areas have first been identified (accessibility, mobility, education, occupation, housing, social and health care, support networks, access to ICT, and participation and leisure).

Once the areas of interest were defined and following a methodology that has combined qualitative techniques (search and documentary analysis, in-depth interviews and discussion groups) and quantitative techniques (surveys), a series of needs, reference practices and improvement measures and actions have been identified.
